Dates and Participants Announced for Under the Sal Tree 2022

GOALPARA: Under the Sal Tree is one of the most famous theatre events in the country and is organised annually in the Goalpara District of the state of Assam. This year's event will start on December 15 and conclude on December 18.

Under the Sal Tree theatre festival is the creation of the Late Sukracharjya Rabha. It is hosted annually at the Badungduppa Kalakendra located in the Rampur region of the Goalpara District. This year will see the 13th edition of this eco-friendly event characterised by the use of only natural items for the event. The lack of any electronics during the presentation is a key feature of the event.

The 13th edition of the three-day event will see seven plays from across the country and abroad. They are Rishi Jolongka in Rabha language from Goalpara, Alor Gaan in Bengali and Marathi from Maharashtra,Atho Hidimba Kotha in Bengali from West Bengal, Erendira's Metamorphosis in Assamese from Guwahati, Jhalkar in Hindi from Mumbai and Pancho No Vesh in Gujarati/Hindi from Ahmedabad. In addition to these six, My Sweet Rotten Heritance in English from Sri Lanka will be the foreign participant this year.

"We are thrilled to bring back the next edition of 'Under the Sal Tree' theatre festival. The love and affection given to us by the theatre lovers of the region made us believe that we can continue presenting some of the best plays in the lap of nature. Do join us as we continue the revolution started by our founder Sukracharjya Rabha," said managing director Madan Rabha.

This festival has become synonymous with nature-friendly theatre over the years and has seen participants from South Korea, Brazil, Poland and Bangladesh. And this edition has been supported by the Chief Minister of Assam, Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council, Indian Oil Limited Corporation and Bongaigaon Refinery.
